to get the ponter, i added in the Device section:

Option     "SWcursor"

BTW i've the same issue as you when i switch back to console, the
screen is blank and i've to restart the system. Moreover, but that
could be just my perception or a cpu bound problem, the entire X
environment seems slow, e.g. switching from a workspace to another one
can take a couple of secs.
