[Openchrome-users] Help - VN896 with Ubuntu 8.04 and Clevo M660SE

Why don't you just use the openchrome driver included in Ubuntu 8.04 ? 
It's pretty my up to date (xserver-xorg-video-openchrome 0.2.901) so no 
compiling required, unless you need the bleeding edge experimental branch.

In order to get glxgears running decently you need direct rendering 
working. Try 'glxinfo' and see what it says. If direct rendering is 
disabled look in the xorg.log for related messages to find out why.
