Getting docs from VIA has proved to be impossible so far.  Getting 
them to admit that there is some hardware bug in their chips sounds 
like... beyond impossible.

But you could try sending them an email, subtly suggesting you might 
slashdot this bug if they won't tell you how to work around the 
problem.
