Comment(by gang65):

 Hi.
I also have this same problem. I have VIA K8M890 graphic chipset and after
upgrading from Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10 the gdm freezes.
On Ubuntu 8.04 openchrome works perfectly.

The driver version on the Ubuntu 8.10 is xserver-xorg-video-openchrome
 (1:0.2.903-0ubuntu3).
The driver version on the Ubuntu 8.04 is xserver-xorg-video-openchrome
 (1:0.2.901-0ubuntu4).

When I switched driver to VESA its works, but very slowly.
When I add "XaaNoImageWriteRect" option to xorg it starts working.

I think the same problem is on the another system
 Fedora:
 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=450321
 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=446489

 Ubuntu:
 http://www.mail-archive.com/openchrome-users at openchrome.org/msg01159.html
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
 openchrome/+bug/274340

How I can help to resolve this bug?
I can compile this drivers with some "debug" or "trace" options.
Tell me only how I can do this.
