[Openchrome-users] Ubuntu package?

Hi Marty,

Last year, I posted detailed instructions on how to compile the OpenChrome DDX straight from the upstream Git repository for Ubuntu based OSes.

https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/openchrome-users/2016-February/007237.html

Please note that if you chose to switch to HWE (HardWare Enablement) version, you should not enter the following line.

$ sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

The above line will possibly wreck your X.Org Server.
You will have to figure out the appropriate version in this case, I will think that the following will be appropriate if you have Ubuntu 14.04.5 components installed.

$ sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-openchrome-lts-xenial

For more details, the following link explains in detail of what is going on.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack

If you are not sure, stick to the original instruction on how to build th dependency, which is this one.

$ sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

    At this point, I do not actively maintain or distribute pre-compiled OpenChrome DDX .deb files, but Dylan Aïssi has done so.

https://launchpad.net/~dylan.a/+archive/ubuntu/xxv-openchrome
https://launchpad.net/~dylan.a/+archive/ubuntu/xxv-openchrome-unstable

Follow the instructions on the page on how to add an PPA to your particular system.
I have not tested his .deb files, so do it at your own risk.
    Generally speaking, I do not recommend using Canonical supplied stock xserver-xorg-video-openchrome since they are very, very slow to update to the latest one, and furthermore, they are ridiculously stubborn when it comes to replacing the older broken versions like Version 0.3.3 with the latest release.
I have given two of their developers my assurance that replacing older Version 0.3.3 with a newer one is a no brainer, but due to their update policies, they are not really able to replace the older buggier ones with the latest release.
Regardless, I do not recommend using Version 0.3.3, 0.4, and 0.5 since Version 0.6 fixes many issues that exists in these versions.
    Since the standby resume issue you are having appears to be a bug, I recommend that you file a bug report with https://bugs.freedesktop.org.
Last month, I did a bug triage without freedesktop.org Bugzilla, and it was painful to do it this way, so from now on, I will only handle it via freedesktop.org Bugzilla.
Here is the official location to file a bug.

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=xorg&component=Driver/openchrome

If they prompt you to enter User ID and password, please go create an account with freedesktop.org Bugzilla, activate the account, and then revisit the link above.
I will give you detailed instructions on what information I am looking for.
Just for the record, I do most development on two VN896 chipset based laptops (Epic 1314 and HP 2133), and standby resume works fine on Xubuntu 14.04.
That being said, Epic 1314 has an issue restoring the hardware cursor on Lubuntu 12.04 in most cases.
