Dear ATypI friends,

In Lisbon we announced our interest in creating a comprehensive site for
information on alphabets and writing systems - ScriptSource. Our hope was
that ScriptSource would be built and managed by a community of people and
institutions.

We are now ready to unveil our dreams in a public way - through a new
ScriptSource Community web site. This site gives information on both the
ScriptSource vision (including technical papers and a user interaction
prototype) and the Community we hope will create and manage the site in the
long-term. Find out more at:

We are looking for two types of partners to become part of the active
ScriptSource Community:

- 3-5 institutions or companies that could join with us and make a
significant investment of time and effort to establish and manage the site.

- a few key individuals who are either experts in specific scripts or have
other expertise to offer.

ScriptSource is not a commercial venture, so it is important that many of us
work together to make it happen. Although we are initiating the effort, and
will provide initial technical and administrative support, we do hope it
will become a community effort.

(BTW - we're not intending for ScriptSource to compete with or replace other
sites with script information, such as decodeunicode. See the site for
information on how ScriptSource could make such sites even stronger.)

Please look at what we're thinking and give us feedback. We've set up three
mailing lists you can subscribe to: a general list for info on ScriptSource,
one for Community announcements, and one for discussion within the active
Community members.

If you are interested in being part of the ScriptSource effort, and helping
us discover the best methods for gathering and presenting script
information, let us know by writing to me at
