Jim,

Thanks for the email!  I don't have time now, but I'll try your suggestions
tonight.  In general, it was not a problem with ftconfig and xft finding the
font; the problem was that garbage would be displayed.

I've posted the file on my webpage for you to access:

Note that only the diagonals in the ASCII section have been grayscaled.  "7"
is a pretty good test character.
