[Openicc] 2008 Google SoC preparations

Dear Kai-Uwe and all,
At the ICC meeting just completed in Munich we initiated a new WG
(Automated Workflow WG) to focus on getting automated color management
working for the average office and home user.
This is an even greater issue now than in the past because cameras and
displays are moving away from the sRGB default. We expect this work will
result in specifications beyond the ICC profile.
The ICC now has a WG level of membership available for individuals. Would
someone from the OpenICC community like to join this work?
We are going to have some serious discussions with Apple and Microsoft on
this topic. It seems sensible to have the open source community included
as well.
The next ICC meeting (June in Japan) will include a special session on
this topic - to be attended by special guests from the Japan printer
manufacturer community.
Best regards,
Ann McCarthy

Re: [Openicc] 2008 Google SoC preparations
Here come some project ideas. Please comment if you feel appropriate.
Printing and Devices:
o implement a generic device settings to colorimetry layer
o do a sample implementation in Gutenprint/libopenraw ...
(Kai-Uwe, Robert?, Hubert? ...)
o Makes it sense to design and implement a printer
calibration/linearisation gui?
(Graeme, Hal, Robert)
Collaboration:
o generic toolkit independent Gui
design and implement a minimalistic widget set, which allows easy
implementation, exchange and processing. (PPD, XForms ...)
Goal is a new base for various plug-in GUI API's.
(Kai-Uwe, ...)
Accelleration:
o old candidate lcms in floats
o GPU computations
Colour management framework:
o tonemapping integration and plug-ins in Oyranos
o basic ICC spec implementation, profile tag parsing and writing
o colour data analysis and widgets (ICC Examin modularisation)
o extending the colour conversion framework (monitor mapping,
pixel buffer type conversions and optimisation ...)
(Kai-Uwe, ...)
... more ideas and mentors here ...
kind regards
Kai-Uwe Behrmann
