[Openicc] Querry about ICC Platform Signature

Hi,

I'm the chair of the ICC Architecture Working Group. Recently it came
to our attention that there is no proper signature for the platform
field in the ICC profile header.

I believe that this header field was originally intended to be used to
allow the profile to identify the specific CMM on a specific platform
that the profile was ideally suited for (i.e. for the specific purpose
of processing private tags correctly). Since private tags void any
sense of interoperability this use has fell somewhat into disfavor.

The question for the OpenICC community is does it make sense to have a
platform signature for the openIcc/Linux architecture, and would this
architecture be inclined to use the platform+cmm ICC header signatures
to select the "correct" cmm for applying profiles based upon this
information in the profile headers?

Thanks!
