[Openicc] What are expecting Inkscape, Krita and Scribus from a color / printing framework ?

Hello,
Concerning colormanaged printing, the OpenICC list is currently more a
"cocktail party conservation" instead of dicussing, how the puzzle between
- applications
- Colormanagement framework
- CUPS
- CUPS filters
- CUPS drivers
- Printing GUI
should be solved in a practical way.
I´m especially wondering, that the developers of Inkscape, Krita and
Scribus are not writing, what they are expecting from a color managed
printing framework, so that it helps to make color managed printing more
mature in their apps.
Topics I want to discuss with you - the app developers - are e.g.
1) Where to apply the profile for the driver setting ?
- Should the profile for the printer driver setting be applied inside
your application ?
-O r do you prefer to deliver a spool file with an embedded document
colorspace and the profile for the driver setting will be applied in a
CUPS filter ?
2) Is PDF a must for a print spool file, if only images should be printed ?
A CUPS raster driver expects an image to be printed. CUPS is able to use
images as print spool format. In the case if an application handles only
images like Krite:
Does it make sense to integrate a framework into Krita to convert images
into colormanaged PDF print spool file and than apply a CUPS PDFtoRaster
filter, which converts back the PDF to an image for the raster driver?
3) What are applications developers are expecting from a Colormanagement
framework ?
- What should a color management framework like e.g. Oyranos or
gcm/colord deliver, that you would make use from it in your applications ?
4) Libraries for print spool files creation
- What kind of libraies you are using for print spool file creation ?
- What kind of functionalities should be incorporated into this
libraries, you would support in your apps for making color managed
printing more mature ?
kind regards
Jan-Peter
