* They switched the monitor hardware profile from sRGB to Full Gamut
and the assigned ICC profile was removed?
* They plugged in a projector and it used the same profile as the
monitor had just been using?
* Updating the system BIOS or monitor microcode removed the profile mapping?

I think it makes a lot of sense to do a little fuzzy matching behind
the scenes, as long as the technical correctness is not put before the
ideal user experience.
