To respond properly, lets us be a bit more specific.
On the Oyranos site http://www.oyranos.org/audience/ one can read:
"Oyranos’ automatisation capabilities make colour management useable for
all users. ..."
When Richard states both CMSs have a very different target audience, then
colord must be have a somehow specialised audience. Perhaps specialied on
people, who own a colour measurement device?
But indeed I see a very different focus in colord to build a monolithic
CMS with code spread over all possible projects specially tailored to
support colord and nothing generic. Or look at the profiler, which is not
useable outside Gnome.
On the opposite Oyranos relies on open standards and is build in a modular
fashion. No need for special hooks or a root daemon running all the time.

Looks like a project specific specification.
