Greetings everyone!
I was accepted for the 2012 Google Summer of Code, and will be spending the
summer adding printer color management to Krita - KDE's popular
draw-and-paint application.
The approach is to use the color-managed PDF printing workflow that is
outlined here <http://www.oyranos.org/2012/02/linux-printing/>. Much of
the work I have done during last year's GSoC was to put that workflow into
prototype code, which later resulted into a library interface called
libCmpx<http://www.oyranos.org/wiki/index.php?title=LibCmpx>.
This interface will be used in Krita's print dialog, which will
conveniently abstract the details of color management.
This will be a big project for me, and prior to the official start of GSoC,
I would like to ask for some assistance from the color experts here on
OpenICC. LibCmpx uses Ghostscript for PDF rendering and Oyranos for
automatic profile-selection - both components will likely require some
tuning and patching in order to get libCmpx to properly work. In addition,
I would like to possibly work on modifying the print queues and CUPS
filters (passing in color-calibrated data) as a stretch goal; a little more
background on what would be required for implementing both of these would
be helpful.
I will be available full-time starting on May 12. As with previous GSoC's,
I will be blogging <http://jsimon3.wordpress.com> my progress weekly.
Thank you again for your time and I look forward to working on this project!
Joe Simon
