I assume you're expecting:

signal sender=:1.149 -> dest=(null destination) serial=119
path=/org/freedesktop/PackageKit;
interface=org.freedesktop.PackageKit; member=UpdatesChanged

I get this too, but it's kinda hard to debug as packagekitd is being
started by dbus and all it's debugging is being swallowed up. I can't
see any reason in the code why the daemon does not emit the first
signal.
