Zero Install already has PackageKit support, for installing dependencies
from native distribution packages. Since the 0install "feeds" are a
superset of the PK applications (.desktop) and packages, it doesn't
make too much sense to dumb them down again to make a PK backend...

But it is possible to do if required, and there is a program to do it:
http://0install.net/0bootstrap.html (not yet released, but "working")
Using such a package has all the usual limitations, such as requiring
administrator privilege and getting it blessed for a central repository.

There's also an "app" feature in zeroinstall-injector-1.8, that allows
you to launch a a stored selection of a feed without requiring the solver:
(it only installs a shell script for now, so no desktop integration yet)
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.file-systems.zero-install.devel/5826

That feature could be integrated with the "Applications" interface:
http://afb.users.sourceforge.net/zero-install/index/zero-app.html
But it still offers the "Run" button, and not the "Install" button.
(and you can add the metafeeds of your choice, not only the provided)
