memory protection error in pkg-config 0.19

Hello.

When I run 'pkg-config --help' I get just three options printed as help  (--version, --modversion and --atleast-pkgconfig...)  and then error message: 'memory protection error' (translated fom polish :)

pkg-config version - 0.19
Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 (testing/unstable)
kernel: 2.6.11
libc6: glibc 2.3.2-ds1-22
