problem compiling pkg-config in Mac OSX 10.6

Hello,
I am having trouble compiling pkg-config ( the latest 0.26 release) in my MAC OSX 10.6 computer. The problem is rather simple. pkg-config looks for glib 2.0. So I go and try to compile glib 2.24.2, but glib  throws error saying it did not find pkg-config !!! This is such a hopeless circular dependency and really a catch-22 situation and I am really surprised that such a dependency can even exist.
I will appreciate any help in this regard.
