[Bug 468276] doesn't dither background

Attached is a patch to dither flushes in sub 32bit modes which fixes 
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=468276

It does require a bit more computation but hopefully not many people will run in 
sub 32bit modes.
