Sorry, I meant I had

plymouth-theme-orexplore/orexplore.plymouth
plymouth-theme-orexplore/et.c.
plymouth-theme-orexplore/et.c.

But the point being that the name of my .plymouth file was not
<theme_dir>/<theme_dir>.plymouth.
