I don't see the problem of Albert's statement in
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=185908 that none of our backends is thread
safe in practice, at least if we speak about concurrent rendering of pages in
splash. In theory we have a problem with the static globalParam variable on the
one hand and with the call of exit if we run out of memory on the other, but if
the calling application allocate globalParam only once and is compiled in 64
bit mode, these problems should be minimal.
