I've put together a little announcement. Just a draft version, not an end 
product:

Founding of the free desktop marketing group

$date January 2006, The Internet - The marketing teams of both major *nix 
desktops, KDE [1] and GNOME [2] are happy to announce the founding of the 
free desktop marketing group. Supported by freedesktop.org [3], the new 
marketing team will be the platform for both projects to work togehter on 
marketing the free desktop. Of course every project needs its own marketing 
team, but a lot of work must not be done seperately. Working together in 
promoting the free desktop benefits to both projects. It is always better to 
work together than fighting each other for market shares.

The main goals of the new marketing group will be:

- promoting the free desktop and its advantages
- doing market research
