 How does your low-level "Front" or "Rear" slider affect the volume?

 Are you suggesting that the final volume for your front speakers are the
 product pcm*master*front, but the volume of the LFE channel is only
 pcm*lfe? That would suck.

 Please be aware that this 'Raymond' is not an alsa developer. He's just a
 pita who likes to write nonsense on the alsa bts.
