#764: RME Hammerfall HDSP+Multiface fails to detect with module-udev-detect

Background: The Hammerfall HDSP + Multiface is a multi-channel breakout
 box + PCI card.

Ubuntu 9.10 recognizes the card, and with a bit of coaxing loads the
multiface firmware. Alsa recognizes one channel (probably an ALSA issue)
and I can play through /dev/audio directly.

 But...

PulseAudio does not find the device at all. I am not the first to have
 this problem:

 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/483237

The workaround there forces me to load module-detect instead of module-
udev-detect, which is deprecated. Ticket 564 has a similar problem, but
 not exactly the same.

I wanted to see if the pulseaudio team knows what the heck is going on and
if there is a proper fix.
