 Guys, perhaps I'm not being clear enough (since you are debating what I am
 actually arguing for.) I am surprised that I was not clear enough.

 Alsa isn't fixing this. EVER. Even if they had a good disposition (but
 they do not!) there would be multiple drivers to fix. The component that
 requires the least COOPERATION is pulse. Therefore this IS the RIGHT place
 for this bug.

 Please understand that you are now installed on many geek's hard-drives.
 You are not Polypaudio anymore, you are the default sound server in most
 Linux distros. Please take this responsibility seriously. Please stop
 thinking about how an ideal world would look like and realize the impact
 you are having on all Linux users.
