 OK. Someday I may feel like looking in the pulse code (but surely not
 today). I don't have particularly high expectations either (I met Pulse
 when it broke my audio in Ubuntu Hardy, and that's it).

 It's too bad I haven't managed to convince you to actually do something.
 The thing is, no other action is likely to take place anywhere. Users are
 enjoying their integrated volume control, broken as it is. They don't use
 dbverify or any other tool that Lennart Poettering has devised. Some see
 their volume muted when going below 16%. This is pretty hard to analyze
 without background knowledge. People simply assume their controls are too
 coarse.
