 Hello,

I am able to hear sound when I plug my headphones into the audio jack on
 the back of my PC.

There are a couple of (hopefully simple) issues I'd like to understand and
 resolve:
 - I can use the ALSA aplay utility only after issuing "su -". I get a
 error message if I don't:
ALSA lib pcm.c:2171:(snd_pcm_open_conf) Cannot open shared library
 /usr/lib64/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so
aplay: main:654: audio open error: No such file or directory
 - I would like to alter the playback device to the NVidia GeForce GTX 480
card so that sound is sent to my monitor over the HDMI cable. I see that
the device is recognized in the attached report, but I don't know how to
 alter the playback device.

I have downloaded BitchX but as of yet, I don't know how to use it. If
there's any chance that I can interactively issue commands and correspond
with a PulseAudio expert by either MSN or Yahoo (via Pidgin), I would be
 most happy.

 Thanks in advance,

 Richard Rogers
