If I open pavucontrol in the CLI, I get the same picture.

I have up to now avoided posting any of this on the PCLOs forum to avoid 
having
this thread and theirs at cross purposes, and figuring that the gurus 
are mostly
here, which seems to be true:  you're one, aren't you?

The word "Port" would seem to refer to the sound device, i.e., the SiS 
or the Trident.
