There hasn't been any decision to not make it work, but it seems
unlikely that anyone will actually do the work.

Ahmed Darwish was the one who implemented the memfd transport and he
was interested in improving the system mode, but he hasn't been active
lately. I added him to Cc in case he wants to comment.
