This is probably worth some research.  I glanced through websockify and
didn't see anything obvious, but we should probe this.  That's a pretty
big difference in performance.

Please don't feel on my behalf that v3 has to be held up by those
broader concerns; maybe the 2K thing, but not the progress bar + file
size.  Those are useful patches, but your work is fairly clearly at par.
