Yeah, this was intentional, if maybe not ideal.  The rationale was
that this sort of option is different; if it's not set, behavior
changes.  So it's not really a default value as such.

I'll leave it be for now; I can't say I'm entirely happy with that
file, but I think the patch remains an incremental improvement.
