Sounds like a nice idea to me.
The magnifying-glass is still used in stuff like document-print-preview, 
but what about a pair of glasses in that icon (as Lapo suggested in #tango)?
Like "Let me put on my reading glasses, so I can take a closer look at 
what you have written."
