[Tango-artists] Another License Enquiry

Hi Guys,

 Thank you for the replies. I also sent an email to the CC people. They are of the opinion that I have to attribute the icons, where-ever I use them - including business cards and shirts... I have attached an .SVG that I have been playing with. Obviously the Tango Icon is the 'internet' globe. Any help replacing this would be most appreciated. Any suggestions on design also appreciated. I am NOT an artistic person - I have just been playing with Inkscape (which I love, BTW).

 The Company's name is CodeRender. I will be offering services based around the customisation and implementation of OpenSource software. My pet project is Open-AudIT - which is GPL'ed. I already have one client, and am now "officially" looking for more. Again, any help most appreciated.

Hi Mark,
Although IANALE, I have spent quite a lot of time over the past few weeks discussing these licenses *with* lawyers.

Incorporating the icon into a Web site, shirt, or card would easily fall under the CC-BY-SA license's definitions of Adaptation and Distribution.  As such, you would be required to license the site design, shirt design, or card design under CC-BY-SA or one of its equivalents.

As you pointed out, providing the attribution of the source of the icon would be simple.  The decision as to whether you want to license the adapted designs into which you incorporate the icon, on the other hand, might not be so simple.  But the 'SA' clause demands that.

If you find some CC-BY licensed artwork, it would be more easily incorporated into other designs and logos.
