I was going to, but got pre-empted; someone else will have to pick this up I'm
afraid.

Not necessarily; it used to be desirable for ChannelRequest to not prepare
anything automatically, because channel requests are nearly always used as an
opaque token whose properties aren't needed. (Having said that, we now provide
immutable properties everywhere a ChannelRequest is used, I think...)
