FURTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS
=================
Telepathy:
>From now on Tapioca will be working together with Telepathy project
(http://telepathy.freedesktop.org/).
Both Tapioca and Telepathy projects share the same goals, which is to provide a
framework for VoIP and IM able to handle multiple protocols, based on a
distributed architecture that could provide better integration with desktop
applications.
A long of a year of development, both projects achieved this goal, with good
visibility on the open source community, but became more similar in what
concerns about architectural decisions and specifications.
Such similarity brought up many common points that may be seem as a "split" of
open source resources, as there are two separated lines of work to achieve the
same goal. This duplication of efforts was generating some confusion among OS
developers and users, that started questioning the existence of two different
projects with the same objectives.
Although Telepathy has a more complete specification of this distributed
standard, Tapioca has a larger set of components and helper libraries. Based on
this assumption, a discussion has started on #telepathy IRC channel, and a
"merge" proposition between Telepathy and Tapioca was taken as as valid and
positive idea.
The new target from now on is that Tapioca will be an implementation
of the Telepathy standard, and will keep providing the client API,
glib bindings, python bindings, helpers and the SIP connection manager
(tapioca-sip will be the first port using the telepathy spec). And the
Tapioca team will work together with the telepathy team to make the
telepathy specification to be a 'de facto' standard for VoIP and IM
applications.
We hope that this merge can improve the quality of both Tapioca and
Telepathy, and we are looking forward for more contributors and
suggestions.
Landell Project:
Landell is a VoIP and IM user interface written in C#, using the
tapioca-voip framework as its backend. Landell supports full featured
SIP and GoogleTlak connections and a nice look.
Check out landell at:

deb packages coming soon.

Marcio
