The failure is due to this:

make[2]: Entering directory
`/home/jching/oss/src/net/gossip/build-libtp/xml'
top_srcdir=../../libtelepathy top_builddir=.. sh ../../libtelepathy/xml/fix-xml.sh
grep: interfaces: No such file or directory

It seems the fix-xml.sh assumes top_builddir == top_srcdir.
