That's not actually true. The message structure (in either the old Text
interface or the new, not-yet-final Messages interface) contains the sender's
handle.

The channel is only needed to get context for the message (i.e. what
conversation it was part of and who else would have seen it).

(Side note: I'm reconsidering exactly how we should represent MSN "1-1" chats
as a result of this work on enumerating use-cases. We might keep the
current recommendation, or we might end up with an API for upgrading 1-1
chats to group chats - it's all up in the air at the moment.)
