[Telepathy] Empathy, dbus and gnome-shell

I'm getting some DE-wide lag when changing the status on the Empathy window.

I'd say Empathy and mission-control start exchanging too much
information via dbus and gnome-shell is listening to dbus and gets
laggy to input response.

Is it a valid theory? Is it known? Shall I open a bug report?

P.S.: I think gnome-shell extensions make it worse but it happens with
them disabled as well (namely, "Alternative Status Menu", "Hamster
Menu", "WindowOverlay Icons").
