Empathy is also pretty much unmaintained these days. There hasn't been
any non-translation patches since last May. There are been some work
around Polari (the GNOME Telepathy Based IRC client), but they would be
better off using an IRC lib directly.

You may also want to talk to the guys from Canonical, I understand
they're using Telepathy stuff for their Telephony stack in Ubuntu
Phone.
