I pushed a patch to master today to make sure timeouts are flushed before any
events are processed. I don't *think* that's the issue you're seeing but given
the randomness of dwt not working on your box it could be influenced by it.
Please give a6f0e4ae60177 or anything after that a try, thanks.

you'll have to restart X or the Wayland compositor, whichever applies. It won't
reload otherwise (unless you're just using libinput-debug-events or something
of course).
