Not sure it's a good idea to keep things out. We [awesome] use xcb-util
heavily, and I spent some time last year rewriting and ehancing many parts
of it so it can be useful.
Many functions are needed for Xlib users that want to bring XCB to
their app/lib, and telling them to go somewhere else where upstream
might disapear does not seem like a valuable option right now. XCB is
not yet a wide deployed library (if you don't count Xlib usage of it).
Having basic bricks managed by the XCB team until many more competents
people come and make things better does not seems a bad idea to me,
unless we are blocking developement, which we are not currently, at
least. :-)
