Even with not everyone attending all days and some no shows, I expect
around 40 people each day, so I'm declaring the meeting full at this
point.

For those of you who have never been to CRL, the meeting room is called
Rodan, and has quite fancy AV. We have 4 projectors across the front of
the room, podium with input from laptops, an overhead projector camera
(slides or other objects can be put up on the projector screens), and
the whole room can function as a giant speaker-phone. We typically have
IRC running on one screen the entire time for better interaction with
people listening in remotely or just the general community (both inside
the room and all over the world).

Since getting so many of you in and out for lunch is difficult and on
weekends the choices are more limited, we're having sandwiches brought
in all 3 days (expecting 40 attendees). A light breakfast and coffee
for 30 is being brought in as well, on the theory that not everyone eats
breakfast, and some will prefer to eat more in their hotels. There are
a number of quite fast eateries near CRL, though some of these are
closed on the weekend, serving sandwiches, soup, salad, chinese food,
pizza, etc.).

When you arrive at One Cambridge Center, you'll have to check in at the
building security guard where your name should be on a list. CRL is on
the 11th and 12th floors of the building.

Please come to the 11th floor, where Rodney Oliver will check you into
the facility and give you a name-badge.

Please do not enter people's offices or cubicles in the facility, and
stay on the 11th floor unless escorted by a HP employee. There is a
lunch room at the end of the hall where free soft drinks and coffee can
be found. The bathroom is carefully hidden in the core of the building
roughly opposite from Rodan, to maximize your confusion ;-).

There is wireless Internet access in the facility, and there will be
some amount of wired network also available in Rodan, but we may be
short of ports given the number of people attending. There is about 18
megabits leaving the building (a fair amount is used steady state by
handhelds.org, which is hosted at CRL).

Directions to CRL can be found at:
http://www.crl.hpl.hp.com/who/lab/directions.htm

In short, we are located just above the Kendall Square T subway station
(on the red line), and we recommend using public transportation if at
all possible. For those of you new to Boston, as opposed to many/most
American cities, the Boston area has reasonable public transportation
(subway, buses, commuter rail), and it is usually faster and more
convenient for a visitor to use public transportation than navigate with
a car. We are located next to the Cambridge Marriot hotel where there is
public pay parking available, but I don't expect to be able to validate
the parking under these circumstances.

Also in the area are two bookstores: the MIT Coop, and Quantum Books.
The MIT coop has lots wide variety of books (including text books), and
Quantum is a very good specialty technical bookstore (opposite end of
the block from One Cambridge Center).

See you Saturday.
                    - Jim
