What about the Specifications and Software toplevel categories on
www.freedesktop.org now?

I certainly don't mind having different virtual hosts or urls for
specs and software, that seems logical.

People have requested that a wiki and a weblog (as in
dot.kde.org/gnomedesktop.com) be integrated somehow, as well.

So there's a fair bit of fooling with the web site possible.

A rough idea:

 - current "News" section becomes a weblog (with moderation)
 - current "Info" and "Desktops" section become part of a Wiki
 - we keep "Software" and "Specifications" as static pages generated
from files in CVS in a cron job; because they will be tied to
master copies of data in CVS, such as manuals, specs, etc.
Also this way we won't further break all the links in here.
 - "About" could be either Wiki or CVS-generated
 - Front page could have some kind of overview with links to key
pages, followed by a news feed (as in www.kde.org)

I don't know, anything that works pretty well is fine with me.
Ultimately up to whoever we can get to hack on it. ;-)

I don't have a ton of time to work on the web site, so if it's up to
only me I'd just move over what's currently there. Part of the reason
to move to new hosting, though, is that if we move other people can
have shell accounts and do work like this.
