As an aside, Trolltech has proposed/considered splitting Qt before
(there is a project that already does it for the GPL version:

You could export a C interface for those programmers, although no-one
has proposed doing that...  Meaning that yes, you can have a C++
implementation of a library that is suitable for C programmers.

So it is not entirely inconceivable that Qt could be used as a base
library... although unlikely.  :-)
