well, redhat and others are working on  a gnome
document viewer capable if viewing pdf,ps, dvi and
possibly other formats without using xpdf

http://www.gnome.org/projects/evince/

I heard from one of the developers that it will be
available along with the release of fc4

so this might change a few things
