Associating mime types with icons - broken?

I think this code is in 
http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/libgnomeui/libgnomeui/gnome-icon-lookup.c?rev=1.16&view=markup
But maybe I'm mistaken and this is some old obsolete code, I dunno for
sure ;)
