This is, uh, not really possible for compiz and beryl. They have _no_
fallback code and as far as I can tell little to no interest in
supporting that. The solution appears to be to load metacity or kwin
or whatever if you don't want a CWM.

Why couldn't the CWM just implement the gnome-mag API? I know there
are plans for beryl to do just that.
