The systray spec is utter and total crap, and Ion also will not
support it. It's over-engineered shit, and the required XEmbed
in particular is over-specific NIH shit, designed by illiterates
who never even bothered browsing the X documentation, and 
certainly stopped before thinks like XGrabKey, WM_TAKE_FOCUS, 
the ICCCM, etc.

But that's all typical FDO... typical modern FOSS partices.
Even Xrandr was turned into Xinerama 2.0, and Xinerama is
the definition of brain damage. Separate root windows make
a lot of sense, the artificial restriction on reparenting
should just be removed (and the count made dynamic...
just XCreateWindow with parent None).
