I read the 'TL;DR' in his original email as being a one-sentence précis
of the paragraph above: a lightning summary for people who couldn't be
bothered to read his email properly.  So you may have quite radically
misunderstood his point there ...

TL;DR: The abuse may have been unwarranted.
