Summary: Access X sessions from RDP dumb terminals
Product: xorg
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: Server/general
AssignedTo: xorg-bugzilla-noise at freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: duncan at innes.net
Is it anywhere near feasible to create an RDP layer to the X protocol?
I ask because of the sheer number of dumb terminals that run only RDP
connections. For companies that use these terminals, the cost of migration to
Linux would have to include replacing all their RDP terminals with those that
run X11.
The correct terminology has escaped me since my Uni days, but . . .
Can an interface be constructed so that the dumb RDP terminal can connect to the
X server and be presented with the normal desktop via it's own protocols.
Perhaps it's not technically feasible. Perhaps it's been dismissed before. I
just thought I'd ask.
The perverse flip-side of this is that the dumb terminals we use here are
actually running Linux as their OS, but only allowing RDP connections.
