anoncvs access via ssh

Is it possible to get anoncvs access to the xorg repository via ssh? 
Using ssh, you need to use :ext: which doesn't do login (requires 
pserver which uses rsh), and when trying to checkout using

cvs -d :ext:anoncvs at cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/xorg co -P xc
anoncvs at cvs.freedesktop.org's password:
Permission denied, please try again.
anoncvs at cvs.freedesktop.org's password:


No matter what you use as a passwd (Tried <blank> anoncvs and guest so 
far).
